California farm workers are eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine—but low supplies and language barriers are posing challenges

Agricultural workers have borne a disproportionate brunt of the coronavirus pandemic: Last year, despite outbreaks on farms across numerous states, workers often went without PPE, health insurance, and housing that allowed for social distancing. Now, in at least one major farming region, they’re struggling to get access to the Covid-19 vaccine. While farmworkers are currently eligible for the vaccine in California, most medical providers are prioritizing those aged 65 and older. Other barriers to access include lack of internet access, language barriers, and trust. One potential way to reach farm workers specifically? Pop-up clinics specifically targeting workers in the sector. The Santa Cruz Sentinel has the story.
