We’ve all been there: Nothing takes the edge off another day in the midst of an unending, socially isolating pandemic like a stiff quarantini. And another. And maybe another. If that sounds like you, know you’re not alone: Americans are drinking 14 percent more these days, according to a new survey of 1,500 adults between 30 and 80. Limit the findings to women, and the increase jumps to 17 percent. Women also reported a 41 percent increase in heavy drinking—as defined as consuming four or more drinks within a few hours. We’d ask if everyone was okay, but we already know the answer. As a few Counter staffers recently agreed: Wine doesn’t even count anymore. NPR has the story.
